Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

Geology is a personal-progress and habit companion ("Geology," "we," "our," or "us"), available at trygeology.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over your data when you use the service (the "Service").

If you have questions or want to exercise a privacy right, contact us at support@geology.oqodo.com.

2. Information We Collect

Account and authentication data:

When you sign up we collect your email address and authentication credentials. Passwords are stored only as a securely hashed value — we never store your password in plain text. If you sign in through a supported OAuth provider (e.g. Google or GitHub), we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from that provider. Authentication is handled by Better Auth, and we may store authentication tokens, session records, and two-factor authentication settings tied to your account.

Your Geology content (journals, carves, and progress):

Geology is a journaling and progress-tracking tool. We store the content you create in the Service, including your goals and projects ("veins"), daily progress entries ("carves"), private notes, timer/session activity, daily check-in data (such as energy and context notes), and related progress and scheduling data. This content is private to your account and can be journal-like and personal in nature.

AI assistant conversations:

Geology includes an AI assistant ("Geo"). When you chat with Geo or it processes your notes, we store the messages exchanged (both your messages and the assistant's responses) so your conversation history persists. The content of these conversations is sent to our AI processing provider (Anthropic) to generate responses — see Section 5.

Telegram integration data:

If you link a Telegram account so you can interact with Geo through Telegram, we store your Telegram chat ID and the content of messages exchanged through that channel, along with channel settings such as quiet-hours preferences. You can unlink Telegram at any time, which stops further message exchange through that channel.

Payment information:

If you purchase a subscription or a one-time lifetime plan, payment is processed by Stripe. We store your Stripe customer ID, your plan and subscription status, and related billing metadata. We do not see, process, or store your full card number or banking details — those are handled directly by Stripe.

Device, log, and diagnostic data:

We and our infrastructure providers may collect technical data such as your IP address, browser type, operating system, and request metadata for security, abuse prevention, and reliability. When an error occurs, diagnostic information may be sent to our error monitoring provider (Sentry) to help us debug. We make reasonable efforts to scrub sensitive data from error reports, but diagnostic payloads can incidentally contain personal data.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide, operate, and maintain the Service and your account
  • To store and display your journals, carves, progress, and AI conversation history
  • To power the Geo AI assistant, including across the web app and linked Telegram channel
  • To authenticate your identity and keep your account secure
  • To process payments and manage subscriptions and lifetime purchases
  • To send transactional emails (verification, password reset, billing, and account notices) and, where applicable, optional product or marketing emails you can opt out of
  • To monitor, debug, and improve reliability and performance
  • To detect, prevent, and address security issues, fraud, and abuse
  • To comply with legal obligations

4. Cookies and Tracking

We use the following types of cookies:

EssentialAuthentication, session management, CSRF protectionSession

Geology relies on essential cookies to keep you signed in and to secure the Service. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. You can manage cookies through your browser settings, but disabling essential cookies may prevent you from using the Service.

5. Third-Party Processors We Share Data With

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the service providers ("sub-processors") that we need to run Geology. Each processes data on our behalf and only for the purposes described below.

Cloudflare— Hosting, database (D1), object storage (R2), and transactional email delivery. Your account data, Geology content, and uploaded files are stored on Cloudflare's infrastructure. Privacy Policy
Anthropic— AI processing. When you use the Geo assistant, the content of your messages and notes is sent to Anthropic's Claude models to generate responses. Privacy Policy
Stripe — Payment processing for subscriptions and one-time lifetime purchases. Privacy Policy
Telegram— Optional messaging channel for interacting with Geo. If you link Telegram, messages are delivered through Telegram's platform and are subject to Telegram's own privacy practices. Privacy Policy
Sentry — Error monitoring and diagnostics. Receives technical error data, which may incidentally include personal data despite our scrubbing efforts. Privacy Policy
Resend — Bulk and marketing email delivery (e.g. product announcements or waitlist invitations), where applicable. Privacy Policy
OAuth providers (Google, GitHub) — Authentication, only if you choose to sign in with them. Google / GitHub

We may also disclose data if required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Geology and its users.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account and content data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data — including your Geology content, AI conversation history, and linked channel data — within 30 days, except where we must retain certain records longer to comply with legal, tax, accounting, or fraud-prevention obligations (for example, billing records held by us or by Stripe). Backups and diagnostic logs may persist for a limited additional period before being overwritten in the ordinary course.

7. Data Security

We use industry-standard security practices, including encrypted connections (TLS/HTTPS), hashed passwords, secure token-based authentication, and optional two-factor authentication. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password and enable two-factor authentication.

8. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights over your personal data:

  • Access — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Rectification — Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Erasure — Request deletion of your personal data
  • Portability — Request your data in a machine-readable format
  • Objection / Restriction — Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Non-discrimination — We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights

You can delete your account and its associated data from your account settings. To request access to or an export of your data, or to make any other privacy request, contact us at support@geology.oqodo.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law (generally within 30 days).

9. International Data Transfers

Geology and its sub-processors operate globally, so your data may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses provided by our sub-processors.

10. Children's Privacy

Geology is not intended for children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EU/EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above and, for significant changes, notify you by email or with a notice in the Service. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

12. Contact Us

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or wish to exercise your data rights, contact Geology at support@geology.oqodo.com (Minnesota, United States).
